Ray married Florence Jeanette Patterson on January 28, 1971 in San Antonio, Texas. From that union was born Anna Elizabeth Oates on January 16, 1971 in San Antonio, Texas and a twin Andrew Lee Oates (died at birth).

Raymond also had six daughters; named, Kathy, Sherry??, Sue, MaryAnn??, and Mandy.
