Petitions ot the Court of Perquimans County, North Carolina
The
documents listed below are petitions made to the Court of Perquimans
County, N.C. by the sons of Joseph Oates (1697-1747) and
Elizabeth (Wyatt) Oates, relative to their inheritance from their
Grandfather, John Wyatt. The cover page for John
Oates looks to be 1749. The cover pages for the others are not clear.
Per the petitions, the will stated that the "children" of the daughter of John
Wyatt, Elizabeth [Wyatt] Oates, were entitled to equal shares of John
Wyatt's estate, when they had "arisen of full age" [not
verbatim]. A review of the will indicates that the petitions are
consistent with the wording in the will.
