Dower to Susanna Cogdell Oates

The Dower of Land for Susannah (Cogdell) Oates, widow of John Oates, has the symbol for the location of the home where they lived.  The road in front of the house follows the present day property line between the lands of John Martin Oates, Sr., on the swamp side and his brother Jethro David Oates, Sr.  The vertical line that runs from upper right to Youngs Swamp is now Hwy. N.C. 50. The tract of land shown below was only part of the land that John and Susan Oates owned.
